Gaining An Audience

I've fallen out of the blogging community for a few years, and now that I'm back with a new blog, I'm finding it more difficult than ever to gain readers. What's the best way to gain readership for a new blog? A free solution would be nice, but I'm willing to put out a few dollars to gain an audience.

I mean really, what's a blogger without their readers?

There are a lot of small ways you can increase your readers, I'm in the process of starting my blog back up and this is what I've been doing, and it seems to be working, I have about a 15-20% increase every day. The process is slow and you have to be dedicated to make it work but it is rewarding and after a few days you'll start seeing results.

01. Blog about varied and popular topics... the more you blog the more you'll come up on searches.
02. Blog daily, even on the weekends as most popular blogs take weekends off.
03. Join social networking sites like Twitter and be proactive in meeting new people.
04. Get involved at your local newspapers/radio stations website and their blogs.
05. Get involved in online forums and communities and post about your updates.
06. Have friends and family help spread the word, especially through sites like Digg and Reddit.
07. Reach out to your friends on MySpace, Facebook and similar sites.
08. Post your blog entries (linking back to the originals) on MySpace, Facebook, Live Spaces, etc.
09. Get involved in other people's blogs, leaving comments. Maybe they'll return the favor.
10. Link back to your blog as much as possible.
11. NETWORK! Get the word out there by meeting as many new people as possible.
12. Go mobile. Figure out fun and interesting ways of posting while on the go, like via your mobile phone.
13. Stick with it! You won't be a success overnight so don't give up.

I'd disagree with the beginning of bradgroux's advice. Rather than following trends and scattering your focus, blog about your passion and it will attract people who share it. Visit related blogs and post useful or insightful comments. Write related articles for directories but don't post duplicate content or you'll get dinged by search engines. Learn to write clearly and concisely so that you can hold your readers' attention.

I very much agree with his point #13, though. It takes time to build an audience and earn their loyalty.

post links as often as possible http://peanutbuttertoes.blogspot.com/
be helpful, never be an ass, and socialize, try submitting to as many blog directories as possible, and latch on to those already successful in your niche, and as long as you keep your content consistent somebody will keep coming back and youll keep growing

I agree with peanutbuttertoes..I have received many new readers by just reaching out to other bloggers that I admired before I started my own site. This does take time, and there is no rhyme or reason on how many vistors you get per day when you are just starting out. Some days I have a handful readers and all of a sudden there will be a spike in the numbers. Just keep remember why you started this in the first place; because you were passionate about something. Everything else will soon fall in to place. Good Luck!

If your content is good, there will eventually be visitors. This is why I don't receive more than 15 unique hits a day.

hi there, ... well, apart from the usual approaching others the content of your blog is extremely important ... the content is the main thing that will make readers come back again and again to your blog ...

Visit the blogs which have the same theme as yours.Leave your comments there and blogroll it if u find it intersting.
Join as many blogging commuities as possible.
Complement people about how nice their blog is ... :) (THIS REALLY HELPS...BUT DON'T OVER DO IT)
and last but not the least as pointed out by many.."HAVE A GOOD CONTENT"

I have tried out many of these things....Do visit my blog http://blogdhaba.blogspot.com

Great tips and comments by everyone here. I too am trying to find some readership here: http://sagarone.blogspot.com

I too am on the gaining readership road, having started my blog only a month ago.

I blog about varied/popular themes, but only those that I actually care and have something to say about.

And the focus always comes back to the main theme of my blog, which is my artwork.

I'm just a bitchy opinionated artist having a good time. LOL!

I'm finding the challenge of finding readership a fun one and will agree with a number of posters on here that reaching out to other bloggers is a good way to go about it.

I pretty much just say what's on my mind. That is probably not the best idea. I think that posting more often is a great idea though. I will have to do that.

Personally, I don't give a damn if you pass this on or not. But Mister Thistle is threatening to quit writing this crap
if I don't get him a broader audience for his freaking rants. Thanks.

Hi Brad, I checked out your first blog and noticed you don't really have a niche. You write on a variety of topics. How is this working for you? The reason I'm asking is that I always thought you had to have a niche.

Thanks,
Christine

Basically,as many in here have already mentioned,a great way to increase traffic is through writting great content and writing it with passion cos your writing speaks & attaches itself to your readers.

Ask yourself what would u like to hear if someone were to read what u intend to write. Also joining blog communities and posting comments in other blog helps as well.

I've written an article about Blogging in my blog. Its been featured in Ezine Articles.

Do check my blog out yeah:- http://spiritus-maverick.blogspot.com/

Have a great time blogging. ~Cheers~ =)
