I can only suggest to you what was told to me , submit to as many directories as possible, go to forums that have relevant content and post comments . They provide backlinks to your site, get as much exposure to your site as possible. Many other blogers will give tips to promote your site. Here are a few sites to look at

One other thing to keep in mind is do not link to sites that don't have page rank themselves. Google toolbar has a page rank button in it to check the rank, if you dont have the toolbar the http://www.seochat.com site has one you can use for any site. Do all of the networking you can to promote yourself, get link text ads etc...

Here's a pretty good list of directories I've been adding my blog to. Most are active sites, but a couple are dead.
http://www.web-directories.ws/Press/Blogs/

It's a good idea to make a Word page that includes your blog URL; description; keywords; etc. That way, you don't have to type the same thing over and over. You can use your Word paper to copy and paste from.

Hope that helps.

Even I got conscious about the same lately. As noted above by others, I read many articles which I found by googling. Back links are the key. So try to add to as many directories as possible. Try to create as many links. Even if you never optimized your blog for all these things, if your blog has really original and interesting content, it will be eventually google rated. Today I randomly checked my pageranking for the first time and was amazed to find it was 3. Not bad for someone who never optimized the blog for search engines.

If you want you can use software to help you submit your site with less hassle and with fast submission to web directories. I suggest you use directory submitter gold. The software lists 2000+ web directories you can submit to and with details like PR, and paid or free web listing.

I got a PR of 3 in less than 6 months with my business blog. I didn't even post as often as I'd like; there was almost an entire month where I said nothing at all.

But there are three main things you need to do:

1) Keep your posts as narrowly focused on your topic as possible - Google wants to see that your posts are consistently relevant to what your meta tags say they are.

2) Get link backs on sites with high PR. Whatever the big dog sites are in your niche (for business they are sites like Squidoo, LinkedIn, Ryze, etc.), get profiles and link to your blog. Link whenever you can on other profiles or network/group pages, forums, etc. on those kinds of sites.

3) Be an active member of at least one prominent online community, and put your link in your sig line every time you post.

Here's to ever increasing PageRank,

Hi,

I agree with all.

I too get PR of 3 within 4 months of launch of my blog site.

I believe,

1) keep good, informative content
2) build relevant back links
3) post comments in relevant forums
4) do SMO (social marketing optimization)

if you wish, we (http://www.mehtainc.com/) can do this for you.
