Saving the future

We all wish to give our future generations a safer and wonderful world. But, how many of us do work towards it. Many ask what can i do? I'll tell u a few very simple things you can follow at home whether u live with family or alone and if you seem to think that u do not have the time.
1. grow one plant for each person in the house
2. save electricity by using light/ac only when necessary, i.e. - try using more natural light, use fan instead of ac whenever possible
3.if travelling for a more than a week empty your fridge and switch off all unnecessary electric gadgets.
4.Use buckets for bath instead of shower and tub to save water
5.Use water filter instead of bottles of mineral water to reduce use of plastic
6. do not run the dishwasher everyday, fill it up fully with dishes before switching it on
7.Cook dishes together if possible to avoid high usage of gas or electricity
8. do grocery shopping once a week or once in two weeks
9. car pool together with friends or neighbors as much as possible to go to work, school, shopping
10. when u go for shopping take cloth bags with u, so that u can say no to plastic bags in the shops
11.when disposing garbage try to fill a bag to the brim before getting rid of it. in that way for 6 months you won't be needing more than 30 trash bags
12.Try buying organic products than non-organic, you will be helping in reducing the usage of fertilizers and pesticides.
I try most of these i do save money as well i do have the satisfaction that i am doing something on my part to build a better world.

i recently moved out to the country and being in such a beautiful envirronment has made me a lot more conscious at trying to preserve it.
Recycle recycle recycle!

I have just started a blog about jewellery and I will be incorporating recycling ideas in it. I am a firm believer that consumerism should not be at the cost of the earth....There is too much waste out there.
Good on you for sharing your knowledge...thankyou

Megan Boris Reply: You present a lot of great ideas, another to add to the list is plugging all electronics into a powerstrip and turning off all electronics that do not need to be on (i.e. refrigerator, etc) every night. This prevents the use of "phantom power" (even when electronics are turned off, but plugged in, they still draw electricity). Also, composting organice refuse is a great way to put nutrients back in the soil and minimize garbage production.
